Hezron Brown visitFri, 28 May 2021On Monday 17 May, Hezron Brown, Pride of Britain Award Winner came to Sandwell Academy and delivered talks to Years 7 through to 11. When Hezron Brown was five, he fell into a bath of boiling hot water. The right side of his body was severely burned, despite months of skin grafts in Birmingham Children’s Hospital, he was still badly scarred. It led to bullying from other children and Hezron resorted to violence as a coping mechanism. Hezron goes into schools, universities and pupil referral units talking to young people about his journey. Hezron is someone students can relate to, he also mentors young people and works with the National Citizen Service helping young people with social integration. Hezron is a national campaigner and Prince’s Trust Ambassador. Our Year 11 cohort researched Hezron’s story the next day, debated articles and wrote mock essays on his journey. Some of the quotes from students who attended – these were received from Hezron via Instagram “Really enjoyed your talk today, inspired me to keep motivated and move forward with my future” “Thank you for coming into Sandwell Academy, I was one of the Year 7 Students and you really inspired me to become a better person, thank you so much”
