Apprenticeship Information Evening
The Careers team recently held an Apprenticeship Information Evening for students and their parents. The aim of the event was to raise awareness about apprenticeship opportunities, the different levels of apprenticeships available, to dismiss some of the myths and provide an opportunity to ask questions to both employers and current apprentices.
The organisations who took part in the event were; Workpays, who currently deliver the Apprenticeship Support and Knowledge programme for Schools, BMW, BT and Capgemini. The representatives from the organisations explained about their apprenticeships, the qualifications required and why they are taking on apprentices. Three current apprentices also attended from the organisations, all of whom were ex- students of Sandwell Academy and they shared their reasons for taking the apprenticeship route, their experiences and their journey to date.
The overall feedback from both students and parents was that the event was very informative and comments from students included;
“Listening to the variety of experiences from the apprentices and getting the employers perspective”
“I can get a degree while doing and apprenticeship”
