Student Completes 27 Mile Walk

A Sandwell Academy student took part in a 27 mile charity walk across Three Yorkshire Peaks with a group from Tameside Primary School over the weekend. Katie Cook currently in Year 12 completed the walk to raise funds for “Libbymae’s Little Angels” a local charity.

The group started their walk at 6am and completed the gruelling 27 miles at 5.30pm, having to contend with some of the worst weather the organisers had ever seen. Katie decided to complete this walk as the charity raises funds to help local neo-natal units and her brother was born prematurely and needed support from the neo-natal unit at Walsall Manor. Katie said, “Although the training and the walk was really hard, it was well worth it as the day was fun”. She is looking forward to her next challenge, which is being planned for 2018 and will take on the Snowdon Challenge that consists of mountain biking, walking and kayaking.

Head Mr Topper commented “Katie is a fantastic role model for us all at Sandwell Academy; she is routinely kind and caring and her efforts to raise money for charity are an example of her concern for others who are less fortunate. Well done to Katie and all those who took part.”
