Celebrating our Year 11 successes

Our Year 11 class of 2019/20 had a strange year, from lockdown to not being able to take their GCSE exams in the summer, but this has not stopped them from achieving great success!  Our students have all gone on to do something amazing, whether that be continue their studies at Sandwell Academy Sixth Form, become a professional footballer, start a roofing apprenticeship or enrol in a course in Tree Surgery!  Here are a few of the successes we celebrated last academic year.

Rhys Whitehouse

Rhys started basic training in the Army in October, based at Harrogate Army Foundation College. Once he has completed this, Rhys will be joining the Royal Engineers.  Rhys said that he is homesick and it is scary, but he will overcome his fears as the friends he makes in the British Army will be friends for life and they will always have each other’s back.  He has now become a Junior Soldier and when he returns to Harrogate in January he will be training to become Private Whitehouse.  Good luck to Rhys!

Oliwia Rostankowska

Oliwia decided to continue her studies at Sandwell Academy in the Sixth Form and is currently studying Psychology, English Literature and Art at A level.  Oliwia said that she chose to stay at Sandwell as she feels the Academy offers structure and reassurance and she knows the teachers will support her through her studies.  Oliwia is looking to go to university after completing her A levels to take a degree in either Fine Art or Fashion.  Best of luck Oliwia!

Rico Richards

In the summer, Rico signed a professional contract with West Bromwich Albion for three years and now plays for the under 18 and under 23 teams.  Whilst playing for WBA, he is also undertaking an A Level in Business.  Rico said, “I am happy with what I am doing and as long as I keep working hard, I will progress further in what I am doing”. Congrats to Rico and keep working hard!
