National Football Final

On Thursday 10 May 2018, Sandwell Academy’s Year 11 football team will be aiming to make history by becoming the first team in the Academy’s history to win back to back National Cup finals.

The team has put in a number of good performances showing high levels of skill, determination and resilience in order to have made it through to the final. The team has faced a number of difficult opponents en route to the final. They saved the best performance for the semi-final with a comprehensive 5 - 1 victory, with a goal from Bradley Burton and two goals each for Finley Thorndike and Morgan Rogers.

After the game Morgan Rogers commented, ‘We played some excellent football, in particular in the second half where we were able to move the ball quicker which allowed us to get in behind the opposition’s defence. Moving forward we are hoping to keep up our form for one final game, and retain the cup’.

Team manager, Mr Golden, has commented on the strength of the squad as a whole in reaching the final, stating that, ‘Over the course of the season, a number of players have contributed to the team’s progression to the final. This is testament to the commitment shown by the players and their desire to win as a team. We will go into the final level headed, but assured with our previous performances, that we can win the competition again’.

Sandwell Academy will be playing against Ravenswood School from Bromley (London) at the Bet365 Stadium, home of Stoke City Football Club. On reaching the final striker, Harvey Cartwright, says ‘I am looking forward to this memorable day. It is a big day for all of us, and a chance to write our name into Academy history by winning another National Cup’.
