Open Door Visit to Centenary Square

Wed, 02 May 2018

A group of Sixth Form students who are interested in the construction sector, recently took part in a behind the scenes tour of Centenary Square in Birmingham as part of the nationwide ‘Open Door’ to construction week. The visit was hosted by Bouygues-UK at their site office where Neil Chapman, the Site Project Manager, shared images of the site and its progress prior to the actual tour. Students were required to wear personal protective equipment as they were walking on a working site and needed to be visible at all times. From the viewing platform they were able to see the whole site and were given a stage by stage commentary on the work taking place. The students were engaged throughout the tour and took full advantage of the opportunity by asking lots of questions about a variety of roles within construction.

Feedback from Mr Chapman was that, “the group were a credit to the Academy, professionally dressed and communicated very maturely and it would be a pleasure to work with you in the future.”
